Requirements

POLICY: Persons who have not graduated from an accredited high school nor received a high school equivalency diploma are eligible to take the GED Tests. Applicants must be at least sixteen years of age and not enrolled in a secondary school. They must present proof of positive identification that shows name, date of birth, address, signature and photograph.  Driver’s licenses, passports, military, or other forms of government (national and foreign) identification that shows required information are all acceptable forms of identification.  Examinees must be a legal resident of Arkansas.  The term "legal resident" has been clarified by the Arkansas Department of Education to mean a person who spends most of his/her time in Arkansas, who pays property taxes, or who posses a valid Arkansas driver's license.  All candidates must complete a written confirmation of eligibility.

Prior to taking the Official GED Tests, applicants must pass the official GED Practice Test with a score of 410 on each of the five tests in the battery with an average score of 450 for a total score of 2250. These tests must be administered through an adult education program or a GED Testing Center.

EXCEPTION: Persons 16 (sixteen) and 17 (seventeen) years old will be approved to take the official GED Tests after having met the provisions specified in the approved Adult Education Attendance and Enrollment Policies as a result of Acts 30 and 31 of 1994 or fulfill test eligibility as determined by Act 1659 of 2001 and Act 604 of 2003.  Testing of home school youth is specifically governed by Act 1659 and Act 604.

INFORMATION/RATIONALE: This regulation is established in accordance with the Commission of Educational Adult Learning and Educational Credentials of the American Council on Education (ACE) for the General Educational Development Testing Service, Arkansas Acts 30 and 31 of 1994, Act 1659 of 2001, and Act 604 of 2003 which allow, after certain provisions have been met, for persons ages 16 and 17 to enroll in adult education programs or take the GED Tests.
